Neighborhood Spotlight- Montavilla

The Portland Metro area is filled with so many awesome and distinct neighborhoods and suburbs, each with their own history, unique businesses, mini cultures, and events! We wanted to showcase all the pieces that make up the Portland Metro, from the Columbia all the way down to Wilsonville (and we will be including some Vancouver, WA neighborhoods too!). Consider this the first post in our Sold By Jen Neighborhood Guide!

Montavilla

Montavilla, the neighborhood just to the east of Mt. Tabor, originated as a small farming village in the 1890s named Mount Tabor Village. After the construction of the Morrison Bridge and the extension of the streetcar to the Eastside neighborhoods, streetcars with a destination of Mount Tabor Village abbreviated the name to Mt. Ta. Villa on their streetcar signs – coining the neighborhood name “Montavilla” still used today.

The Montavilla neighborhood boundaries go from the east of Tabor, west of 205, south of I-84 and north of Division St. The neighborhood feels very residential, but it fits in perfectly with the Portland Eastside’s mix of residential with urban pockets.

Things we love about Montavilla: the year-round farmers market, lots of great local businesses, and it is a good place to look for starter homes.

Things we are excited to see grow: transportation options, more sidewalks, the Montavilla Co-op.
