Neighborhood Spotlight- Richmond

A bustling and popular SE Portland neighborhood dating back to the 1840s the Richmond neighborhood was initially an agricultural area. When it was officially annexed by the city of Portland in the early 1900s the neighborhood experienced a significant boom in residential construction, and many of Richmond’s historic homes, still standing today, were built during this period.

Today Richmond is known for its beautiful historic homes and tree-lined streets, which make it a popular area for walking and biking. The neighborhood offers and promotes a variety of small, unique businesses for all ages and walks of life. While its borders to the north and south include both the famous Hawthorne District and Powell Blvd., we’ve highlighted SE Division as the real heart of the neighborhood.
